The Park University men's basketball program had no problems on the road against Clarke University, gaining more and more separation as the game went on in Dubuque, Iowa on Saturday, 80-62.
The Pirates are 16-11 on the season with a 16-8 Heart of America Athletic Conference record, while the Pride are now at 6-19 on the year with a 6-15 Heart record.
Park got off to a good start with a 10-2 lead.
Abubakar Kromah got off on the right foot with seven of Park's 10 points, including a shot from deep.
Jasigha Barnes got in on the shots from beyond the arc and made it 13-5. It was a 9-5 run that got Clarke back in reach at 18-14, but
Jaden Robinson had his second dunk of the afternoon and
Gagi Gvalia hit a three to get back to a seven-point lead, 23-16. A couple three-pointers and a pair of free-throws by Clarke brought it within three-points with 7:35 to play, 27-24. A couple scores by Kromah and a Barnes three-pointer gave Park another jolt of offense with under five minutes to go in the half, 34-25. Clarke managed to bring it within four points again with 1:47 to play, but
Tristan McRoberts was able to make two jumpers inside a minute to give Park an eight-point advantage, 41-33.
Barnes had the opening four points for Park and after a layup by
Christian Bradford, the Pirates got to a double-digit lead at 47-37. After a couple scores by both sides and mimicking turnovers, Clarke would call timeout at the 14:34 mark trailing Park, 49-40. Out of the timeout, the Pirates looked refocused with a 9-2 run to make things much more difficult for the Pride with 12:02 to go, 58-42. As the second half continued to wind down, Clarke never could gain anything on Park as the Pirates cruised to a 80-62 win.
The Pirates shot 42.3-percent from the field compared to 34.4-percent by the Pride. Both teams were similar in their made three-pointers, but Park shot the higher percentage at six-of-16 compared to seven-of-26 for Clarke.
Free-throws were in Park's favor at 14-of-18 compared to Clarke's 13-of-24.
Park managed to be under 10 turnovers for the game, while the Pride were at 13 for the game. The Pirates earned 10 points off those turnovers, which was of little impact as Clarke had eight points off of turnovers themselves.
Kromah led Park with 21 points and was second on the team in rebounding with eight boards. Barnes was the next highest scorer at 17 points with four assists. This combo also amounted to five of Park's six three-pointers for the game.
Bradford led Park in rebounding with nine rebounds, while McRoberts and Robinson got a healthy number of rebounds with seven and six, respectively.
Robinson was the only other Pirate in double-digit scoring with 12 points, while Gvalia was one bucket shy of double-figure scoring at nine points.
The Pirates are back at home for their final regular season game with Missouri Valley on Wednesday, February 19 at 7:30pm.
