Box Score The Park University women's volleyball program entered the Heart of America Athletic Conference Tournament Quarterfinals as the No. 5 seed and matched up with the No. 4 Eagles of Central Methodist University on Saturday in Fayette, Mo.
The Pirates were locked in from the start for the four set win, 25-20, 23-25, 25-23, 26-24. Park advances to a 6th consecutive Heart Semifinal since joining the conference in 2020. Park is also undefeated against the Eagles in the Heart post-season and all three of those matchups were in the Heart Tournament Championship in 2020, 2021 and 2023.
The Pirates were ready to go with an 8-1 run to start the match. Even after the Eagles tied it 14-14, Park stayed focused with a 4-0 run to make it 18-15. Park went 7-3 in the remaining points to capture the first set, 25-20.
Park came back from a four-point deficit late in set two with a 6-0 run to make it 20-18. Park was on the cusp of a 2-0 star to the match, but at 23-22 three unanswered points by the Eagles tied the match 1-1, 25-23.
Park kept on coming on strong late in sets with a 8-1 run for a 20-15 lead. The Eagles faced a set point after back-to-back kills by
Daniela Gomez, 24-21, but they made it interesting with a kill and an ace for a 24-23 score.
Indi Zetic had no problem though on the third set point with a kill for the 25-23 win.
Park used all of their timeouts in the fourth set when the Eagles went on a 7-0 spree, but an 8-3 run by Park gave them a 15-14 lead. Both sides traded 3-0 runs and these teams gave a great show on Saturday night in set four. There would be six more ties down the stretch before attack errors by Central Methodist put Park in a favorable spot, 25-24. With match point on the line, who else would take the final touch but Zetic. She went for 21 kills to end the match 26-24.
Zetic had a double-double with 17 digs in the match, while
Jullia Alvarez led the Pirates with 29 digs.
Gomez was one dig shy of a double-double and was second in kills with 17. Angelina Rodrigez was close to a double-double as well with eight kills and 14 digs.
Silvia Albani kept the offense going with 47 assists and 11 digs for her double double.
Park hit .193 to edge the Eagles' .109, while Central Methodist had the advantage in serve and receive with eight service aces and only four servicer errors to Park's three aces and eight errors.
