The Park University men's soccer program earned a shutout victory over (RV) Missouri Valley College on the road in Marshall, Mo. on Saturday night, defeating the Vikings 2-nil.
The backline for the Pirates only allowed two shots on goal the entire contest and for the cleansheet and two saves,
Felipe Ramos earned his second Heart Defensive Player of the Week award on the season.Â
Park goes to 3-6-1 on the year and stand at 3-2-1 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. It's a tight race in the conference standings with six teams from 2nd place to 7th place that are within five points of each other. Park currently is in that seven spot, while the Vikings are No. 8 at 2-3-2 in the Heart and 4-4-3 on the season.
It was a defensive first half, but the Pirates got the scoring started in the second half by
Pedro Beserra led in for a goal by the assist from
Luka Andonovski in the 49th minute.Â
Jacksyn McIntyre scored an insurance goal at the 68 minute mark and Park led 2-nil, where the score would stand when the clock struck all zeros.
There was a lot of activity in the game with five yellow cards against Park and a second yellow to force an ejection to Missouri Valley in the 68th minute. The Vikings would play down a player the rest of the way, making a comeback unlikely.Â
Park had one shot in the first half, but flipped the script with eight shots in teh second half. Of their nine shots, four were on goal, all in the second half. The Vikings had five shots for the game, but only two on goal, as Ramos earned a save a half.
The Pirates had two more corner kicks than Missouri Valley with five compared to three for the game.
Park moves on to the postponed matchup with Graceland University on Wednesday night at 7:30pm in Lamoni, Iowa.
