The Park University men's golf program was at their home tournament on October 13-14 at the National Golf Club of Kansas City and the Bluffs for the Virginia McCoy Invitational. The Pirates came in second place, four strokes behind William Woods.
The night before the tournament, the Pirates also were able to honor senior golfer,
Colin Pasitney.
The tournament gets it name in memory of Virginia "Jinny" McCoy, a huge supporter of Park golf and a dearly missed member of the Park University community.
Park scored a 587 compared to the Owls' 583. Park came in three strokes lower after round one than the Owls at 296, but William Woods had a 15 stroke improvement on day two for the win. Park also improved by five strokes for a 291.
The individual champion was a Park Pirate though, as
Charlie Santonsson shot a three-under par for a 139. He had 10 birdies overall in two rounds, consisting of a 68 (-4) and 71.Â
The Pirates were split in three teams during the event, so the next golfer to score for Park's 2nd place team was
Payne Wood with a 149 for T10th, scoring 77 and 72.
Noah Pirtle was T15th with rounds of 74 and 77 for a 151.
Then
Zach Cato scored a 152 with rounds of 79 and 73 for T23rd. Also in 23rd was
Gabe Grier with a 77 and 75 for a 152 as well.
