The Park University women's soccer program had the short trip to Kansas City, Mo. to take on the Eagles of Avila University on Wednesday, ending in a 1-Nil win for Avila.
The Pirates are now 1-2-1 on the year, while the Eagles bump up to 2-1 on the season. The Pirates broke out with five goals against Saint Mary (Kan.) a week ago, but they have been shutout in their other three contests.
In this match, the Pirates definitely had advantages in their number of chances and even corner kicks. Park had six shots in the first half with two on goal and were more aggressive in the second half with eight shots with six on target. The Eagles meanwhile managed five total shots with three on goal, including the lone goal of the match.
Seven different Pirates registered a shot on goal and Gina Tassotti led the way with two shots on goal of her three shots.
It wouldn't be until the '83 that Avila's Cali Lasater was able to make a good turn on a pass from her backline. After getting by one Park defender it was a sprint to the finish, but Lasater was able to put just enough on her shot to get past
Delaney Duke for the game winning goal.
Avila's keeper Kenan Ebel had eight saves for the match and the Eagles had to defend three corner kicks, while not having a single corner kick opportunity of their own.
This is a tough one for the Pirates, as a win was in reach and at least a tie, but they will look to get back right against Northwestern College (Iowa) on Saturday, September 7 at Julian Field.
