The No. 14 nationally ranked Park University women's volleyball program beat the Grand View University Vikings on Saturday in Breckon Sports Center, 25-21, 25-20, 19-25, 25-19.
The Pirates earn their third Heart of America Athletic Conference win in a row and are riding a five match win streak. Park is 3-0 in the Heart and 13-3 on the year, while the Vikings drop to 3-9 and 1-3 in the Heart.
Park had a slim lead to begin set one, but quickly grew to a six-point advantage with a 5-0 run to make it 13-7.
Loes Peijnenburg had two kills in that sequence. It stayed in Park's favor with a 3-0 run to make it 19-12, but Grand View was able to make it a close set down the stretch to force a Park timeout at 20-18.
Avery Caskey and Ceratti were called upon late to shut the door with kills for a 25-21 win.
The Pirates clung to a lead of two to three points for the first half of the second set, but picked up some momentum with a 5-1 run to extend the lead to 21-15. Despite a 3-0 run towards the end of the set by the Vikings, Park's Ceratti and
Mafalda Bras combined for the last two kills to secure set two, 25-20.
In set three, it would be Grand View to jump ahead by a couple of points. The Pirates managed to tie it at 9-9 with a 3-0 run, but a 6-1 run for Grand View would soon ensue for a 15-12 lead. Park cut the lead to one at 16-15, but the Vikings were able to finish strong for a six point win, 25-19.
Ceratti continued to play an instrumental role in the match and had seven kills in set four. She had 21 kills for the match to lead her team. Park had a 9-7 lead in the fourth set and the Pirates regained control with a 5-0 run to take a 14-7 lead. After a Grand View timeout, the Pirates remained unphased and closed out the match with a 25-19 win.
Both teams had 17 kills in a set during the match, in the third set for Grand View and in the fourth set for the Pirates. The Vikings had the highest hitting percentage in a set at .341, but Park had the better overall line at .200 for the match compared to .185 for the Vikings.
Each team had 10 service errors to go around and there was only one service ace between both teams for the match. The block numbers were also eerily similar with nine blocks for Park and eight total blocks for Grand View.
Ceratti earned the double-double on 21 kills and 12 digs, followed by two other Pirates with double-double numbers.
Mafalda Bras had 10 kills and 14 digs, while
Angelina Rodriguez earned 37 assists and compiled 18 digs.
Irene Verdino was sound defensively and matched her career-high in digs in a match with 27.
Three different Pirates had three block assists, including Rodriguez,
Trinity Iverson, and
Florencia Churin. Peijnenburg had herself a day as well with two solo blocks and put up seven kills.
Cakey found herself in double-figures on the day with 11 kills.
The Pirates have their Homecoming Weekend match on Friday against MidAmerica Nazarene University at 7pm in Breckon Sports Center.
