Park University's baseball program had a non-conference game with American Midwest Conference opponent (RV) Columbia College on Tuesday at Comfort Field, falling in the single game in seven innings, 15-1.
The Pirates are now 22-11 on the season, while the Cougars climb to 29-10 and are on a 14-game win-streak.
Columbia showed some serious firepower in the opening inning of the game with nine runs on seven hits, three walks, and a hit by pitch.
Seven pitchers saw mound time on Tuesday, including
Dash Goldston,
Sebastian Del Olmo,
Kyler Barnett,
John Brady,
Michael Hoffman,
Mason Sipes, and
Logan Weaver.
Del Olmo and Brady each had clean innings in the top of the second and fourth.
Park got on the board in the bottom of the first, beginning with an error by the shortstop to put
Alex Rodriguez at first.
Billy Rivera and
Gilberto Torres then singled to get the bases loaded. The Cougars' shortstop had some redemption as he turned a double-play on
Ricardo Hernandez to bring in Rodriguez from third.
There would be three more double-plays in the game. Another turned by the Cougars after two lead-off singles by Rivera and Torres in the third inning, but then Barnett worked the 6-4-3 double-play in the top of the fourth.
This prevented the Pirates from gaining any traction offensively with six hits. Both teams had two errors in the game, while the Cougars had 22 hits in the seven-inning contest.
The game was out of reach, as Park had to suffer the 15-1 loss.
Three Pirates had multi-hit days and accounted for all of Park's hits, including Rivera, Torres, and
Yadiel Santana.
The Pirates are on the road on Saturday and Sunday at Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa for 1pm doubleheaders both days.
