Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Grand View Pulls Ahead of Park, 77-49

Park University's women's basketball program traveled to Des Moines, Iowa on Wednesday evening and were denied on the road, as the No. 17 Grand View University Vikings earned the 77-49 win.

This makes three losses in a row for the Pirates with a 10-13 record on the season and 7-12 conference record, while Grand View is No. 2 in the Heart at 21-3 and 17-3 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.

A 10-0 run was a difficult start to overcome for Park and the Pirates' first score came by Iva Drobnjak at the 5:29 mark. Park came within four points on a 6-0 run on account of Angel Wiggins' two layups to make it 10-6 with 4:26 left. Park would come within four points again at the 3:21 mark on Marina Perdiguero's layup, 12-8, but the Pirates 7-2 run would close out the quarter, 19-10.

Park was unable to rally down the stretch as a Grand View held the Pirates to eight second quarter points, while going on to score 23 points themselves for a 24-point halftime lead, 42-18. Grand View was four-of-nine from beyond the arc in the second quarter, while Park was only one-of-six of the same, coming from Emma Perry.

Grand View led by as much as 34 points in the third quarter at the 6:17 mark, but there would be no ties or lead changes the entire game. Park finished strong despite the challenges in the previous three quarters with a 20-point fourth quarter to end the game, 77-49. Drobnjak and Perry combined for half of the Pirates' points in the fourth quarter.

The Pirates shot 36.2-percent from the field, while the Vikings were 50-percent from the floor. By the end of the game the three-point field-goal percentage balanced out, 26.7-percent on four-of-15 for the Pirates and five-of-17 for Grand View at 29.4-percent.

The Vikings got to the line more than Park and shot a higher free-throw percentage 20-of-29 compared to 11-of-19 for the Pirates.

It was a dramatic difference in the turnover game with 27 turnovers for the Pirates and only 13 for Grand View. 34 of Grand View's points came off turnovers, while Park scored nine off of Grand View turnovers.

The Pirates had a slim advantage in second chance points with nine, while Grand View had three less points at six.

Perry had 12 points for the game to lead Park, while Drobnjak, Wiggins, and Kate Sokolova each had eight points.

Makayla Artis and Wiggins led the rebounding effort with six each. Kiersten Robbins was most effective off the offensive glass though with three offensive rebounds to her credit.

Park will continue their Iowa tour on Saturday at noon with another tough matchup with No. 5 Clarke University in Dubuque, Iowa. WATCH
