The No. 8 seeded Park University men's soccer program was tasked with playing the No. 1 seeded Missouri Valley College Vikings in Marshall, Mo. on Wednesday night. The Pirates played tight with the No. 4 nationally ranked Vikings, but in the end Missouri Valley held on for the 2-1 win.
Park finishes the season at 7-7-2 with a 4-6-1 Heart record, while Missouri Valley maintains a 14-1-3 record.
For the Vikings, the Heart Player of the Year, Sam Green go the first goal of the contest at the 11:49 mark.
The Pirates and Vikings were equal on shots in the first half, and both teams were not done scoring either, as
Diego Quintana scored in the 26
th minute. The Heart Third Team All-Conference performer equalized for the Pirates on an unassisted goal, one of three shots on goal for Park in the first half.
Missouri Valley's Yoshiki Igarashi did not wait long to answer with a goal three minutes later at the 29 minute mark with an assist coming in from Julius Kruger and Luka Perendija.
Park had 11 corner kicks in the first half alone and ended the game with 15 corners to eight for the Vikings.
In the second half Park only managed two shots, while the Vikings only had four.
Neither team could find the back of the net in the second half, as it stayed 2-1 the rest of the game.
Park had close matches throughout October and this playoff round with five of their last six games being decided by one goal. Â
