The Park University women's soccer program had their final game of the regular season on Saturday against Baker University at Julian Field. Park came up short against the Wildcats, 2-Nil.
On Senior Day, Park had the privilege of celebrating six seniors,
Elena Tamayo,
Macy Hughes,
Elisah Miller,
Brock Allen,
Cecilie Esbak Pedersen, and
Peyton Ayers.
The Pirates could not afford to lose on this day, if they were to advance to the Heart of America Athletic Conference Tournament, as the Wildcats jumped Park with 11 points on a 3-6-2 conference record to Park's 3-7-1 in conference. The Pirates were 5-9-2 on the season and the Wildcats matched Park at five wins at 5-10-2.
It as a quick start for the Wildcats, as a header from Emeil Bennett found the back of the net on an assist from Darcy Cato at the 4 minute mark.
Park had six shots compared to Baker's five in the first half, but two shots three shots were on goal for Baker and only one for the Pirates.
In the second half, the trend continued with 10 shots for Park to seven for Baker, while Park were unable to put any shots between the posts.
Baker didn't wait long in the second half either to tack on another insurance goal in the 63
rd minute, as Stella Jameson earned the goal on a Sidney Claeys assist.
As the first half went along there were no goals until the final seconds. Mount Mercy had six shots in the first half compared to only to for the Pirates. Mount Mercy's Eden Campbell was able to thread a pass to Esther Attwood, who then got past the last defender for the goal at the top of the net.
Baker had seven corner kicks to four for the Pirates, and both teams earned three corners in the second half alone.
As the final horn sounded and the rain started to come in over the pitch, the Wildcats evade Park with a 2-nil victory.
