Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

No. 17 Park Falls to No. 21 Central Methodist on the Road, 3-0

The No. 17 nationally ranked Park University women's volleyball program traveled to Fayette, Mo. for the Heart of America Athletic Conference Game of the Week on Tuesday night against No. 21 Central Methodist University. The Eagles came ready to go and earned the sweep, 10-25, 17-25, 11-25.

The Eagles are the top-rated team in the Heart outside of Park and bump up to 17-5 on the season with a 6-2 conference record. The Pirates are in a four-game slouch right now with a 3-4 Heart record and are 13-7 on the season and are currently No. 9 in the conference standings.

After a 2-0 run for Park in set one to make it 5-4, the Eagles extended their lead with a 5-0 run for a 10-4 advantage. A larger 6-0 run put the match out of reach at 16-6, as both Park timeouts were spent. The Eagles came away with a 25-10 win and hit .357 to Park's -.065.

It was more competitive in set two for Park, but a 5-0 start for the Eagles put the Pirates in an early hole. Kills by Mafalda Bras, Izabella Ceratti, and Maria Pim were big in a momentum shifting 6-1 run by Park to cut the deficit to only two points, 16-14. It would be a 6-2 scoring spree to end the set for the Eagles though, 25-17.

Quick starts were a theme for Central Methodist with a 3-0 lead to begin the final frame. Before long it was 9-4 Eagles with a 3-0 run on top of it to bring the score to 12-5. Two Park timeouts came at the 11-5 and 13-6 marks, but the Eagles were showing no signs of relenting at 19-8. By the end of the set the Eagles took the sweep on a 25-11 third set.

Maria Pim and Izabella Ceratti led Park with six kills apiece, while defensively Irene Verdino earned 15 digs at five digs a game.

Silvia Albani only managed 12 assists in a match that Park only had 20 kills to show for their efforts.

The Eagles hit .292 with 44 kills and Park was at .042. Central Methodist also had the advantage from the serve with seven service aces and only four service errors to Park's one service ace and five service errors.

Park looks to regroup at home in Breckon Sports Center on Saturday against Culver-Stockton College at 2pm. WATCH HERE
