The Park University women's soccer program was in Leavenworth, Kan. on Wednesday evening, pairing with the Spires of University of Saint Mary. Both teams were even in goals and the game ended in a draw 1-1.
The Pirates are undefeated in 2023 so far with a 2-0-1 record, while the Spires are 0-2-1.
The Spires are of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference and scored their first goal of the season against Park. Defensively they have been tough though and only have allowed one goal per game. For Park, they have also been stout defensively with only their second allowed goal on the season.
Mikayla Knipp scored an early goal in the 6
th minute curling a ball into the top right corner of the net to give Park an early 1-nil lead.
Saint Mary responded with an unassisted goal in the 9
th minute in response.
Despite 12 shots and 14 shots in both halves for Park and 10 shots on goal for the game, no one else was able to get a ball past Varisol Vargas the Saint Mary goalkeeper.
