The No. 8 Pirates Lights Out Against Clarke in Breckon Sports Center

The No. 8 nationally ranked Park University women's volleyball program had no problem against the Pride of Clarke University on Saturday, earning the sweep 25-15, 25-17, 25-22.

Park is now 3-0 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference and 9-2 on the season, while Clarke has had trouble at the start at 1-3 and 2-13, respectively.

In set one, a 9-7 Park lead was expanded to 17-9 after an impressive 8-2 run. Grecia Ung had some say in the power play with two service aces in that series. The Pirates continued to stay on the offensive and Ung came through with her fourth service ace for set point, 25-15.

Park ripped off a huge nine consecutive points in set two that moved a 9-8 lead to 18-8 in a heartbeat. This time, Park's talented freshman setter Arianna Marino had two service aces and added another kill to her team's cause. The Pride recovered six of the last eight points to reel in the deficit, but in the end, Park captured the second set 25-17.

Plenty of Pirates saw action in set three, including Isabela Ribeiro with three kills and a block. The Pirates rallied back from a 7-5 deficit and went for eight straight points to go up six points on the Pride, 13-7. Another Pirate giving Clarke a hard time off the serve was Allie Burkhalter who floated in three service aces during the scoring swing. The Pride got it all back later in the set with a seven-point run to tie it at 18-18. Back-to-back kills by Szonja Stollar regained the momentum for Park, securing the 25-22 set and match victory.

Ung led Park with six kills, while Debora Bernardi had five kills.

Irene Verdino and Ung both were on point defensively with 11 and 10 digs in the match. 12 service aces as a team for the Pirates was a monumental difference maker. Ung finished with five, Marino with four and Burkhalter added her three.

Marino was one dig away from a double-double, finishing with 21 assists. Verdino also had a career-high eight assists in the match.
