The Park University baseball program laced up with Columbia College at Comfort Field on Tuesday for a non-conference matchup. The Pirates had some late runs come in, but were four runs shy of the Cougars in nine innings, 11-7.
The Pirates are 13-21 now, while the Cougars are trending upward at 26-12 with their fifth win in a row.

The Cougars and Pirates were nearly even in hits for the game at 14 for Columbia and 13 for Park. There were four errors committed by Park though compared to only one for the Cougars.

Both teams kept the walks to a minimum through nine innings with two for Columbia and three allowed by the Pirates' staff.

Eight pitchers had mound time today combining for five strike outs.

Dash Goldston started on the mound for Park and only allowed one earned run of the four runs scored in his two innings pitched.
The first four runs of the game were unearned, including an RBI single by
Ricardo Hernandez which drove in
Billy Rivera who reached on an error. Six unearned runs scored total in the game.

Park led 1-0 after the first inning, but a four run second inning for the Cougars gave them a 4-1 lead on four runs, three hits, and two errors.

Kenneth Melendez had a two-out knock to bring in
Yadiel Santana in the bottom of the second and then with the bases loaded,
Bryce Dye was hit by a pitch to earn the RBI. It was a 4-3 game after the second, but in each of the next four innings the Cougars scored a run to go up 8-3 by the end of the sixth.

Hernandez recorded his second RBI of the day to come within four runs of Columbia, 8-4. Both teams then traded three-run innings to keep the margin the same, 11-7 to end the game.

A late surge of runs in the bottom of the ninth was highlighted by five hits, including doubles by Dye and
Zayne Morrow. Rivera and Santana also came through with RBI's in the inning.

Five Pirates had multi-hit games, but Park's extra base-hits did not come until the bottom of the ninth. The Cougars on the other hand, had nine extra base-hits of their own.
Park will now head to Atchison, Kan. on Saturday and Sunday for a Heart of America Athletic Conference series with Benedictine College at noon on Saturday and 1:30pm on Sunday.Â
