2023 Regular Season Wraps Up with Senior Night Sweep for No. 3 Pirates over Culver-Stockton

Senior Night

Park University's No. 3 nationally ranked men's volleyball program has made it through the 2023 regular season after sweeping Culver-Stockton College in Breckon Sports Center on Senior Night, 25-16, 25-13, 25-17.

The Pirates are now 23-1 on the season with a 17-1 conference record and have secured the No. 1 overall seed in the Heart Conference Tournament as the regular season champion. This lands Park with a bye in the quarterfinals and they will pick up on March 29 in the Semifinal round on Claude English Court.

Culver-Stockton is out of contention for the post-season at 3-22 and 1-17 of the same.

Tonight the Pirates celebrated seniors Pablo Llorente and Caio Alves.

Llorente came up for a Pirate Post-Game following the sweep and left Pirate Nation with a meaningful message.

The Wildcats held in with the Pirates at the start of the match, but at 11-8, Park accelerated past the Wildcats with a 4-0 run to go up 15-8. In that span alone, four different Pirates garnered kills, including Joao Friedrich, Daniel Isernhagen, Samuel Essilfie, and Marcus Lucchesi.

There was no recovering in the set for the Wildcats as Park went on to a 9-point win in set one, 25-16. The Pirates hit their highest percentage in the match with a .400 in the opening set on 15 kills.

Another 4-0 run poured in for the Pirates in set two. This time, a hair earlier than the previous set and Park went from 8-5 to 12-5 in a hurry. A new set of faces impacted the game in the second set as two kills by Soares, a kill by Joao Infante, and a double block from Carston Wellong and Infante were the spark in set two.

Park put the match away with a 6-0 run to advance to the 18-8 lead, eventually taking set two 25-13.

Mateus Carvahlo checked in to serve and delivered two service aces within another 6-0 scoring run in the third set to help Park to a 11-4 lead. Carvalho had two service aces for the match and his team had 11 in all. Nicolas Tenius led Park with three service aces.

The Wildcats showed some life, but in the end were unable to match Park's firepower as the match ended 25-17, Park.

Tenius led the offense with six kills and demonstrating how balanced the attack was tonight, Park had 15 different players earn a kill in the match.

Marcus Lucchesi, Eduardo Faquin, and Llorente distributed the ball well with 15, 11 and five assists, respectively.

15 block assists made it a challenge for Culver-Stockton to get around the block and they only hit .107 for the match. Park on the other hand, hit .382 for the match.

Park has secured home court advantage throughout the Heart playoffs, the semifinals are on March 29 and the conference tournament Championship will be on Saturday, April 1. Watch the live-action here.
