Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

St. Louis Trip Begins with a Win for No. 3 Park Against UHSP, 3-0

Park University's No. 3 nationally ranked men's volleyball program strolled into St. Louis to continue Heart of America Athletic Conference play against University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy, staying on track for their 22nd win of the season, 25-19, 25-15, 25-19.

The Pirates are playing at a high level at 22-0 and 16-0 in the Heart. The Eutectics are still growing in the Heart and are now 5-21 and 2-15 in conference play.

The Pirates hit .330 for the match while UHSP managed a .047. Park's defenders acted like an extension of the net with two solo blocks and 14 block assists for the match.

A 4-0 run opened up the first game for Park, featuring two kills by Veljko Stojic to give Park a five-point lead, 12-7.

The five-point lead got bumped up to a six-point win by the end of the set, 25-19. The Pirates fired 20 kills in the set and hit .342.

UHSP went up 9-3 in set two, but another landslide of points came in for Park for a 6-0 run to overtake the Eutectics, 13-11. Three double-blocks in a row by Carston Wellong and Marcus Lucchesi were quintessential to the exchange.

Wellong and Lucchesi were a force at the net with seven blocks each. For Wellong that is one shy of his career-high, but for Lucchesi he earned his new career-high in block assists.

Another 6-0 run by Park in set two completely put the game out of reach, 19-12. Nicolas Tenius produced two service aces in that stretch. He finished with two aces for the match and had seven kills.

Park had no trouble the rest of the way for the 25-19 victory.

The Pirates stepped out to a 4-0 lead to start set three and built up their largest lead of the match of nine points, 17-8. Park hit their highest hitting percentage of the match at .444 on 16 kills, four errors, and 27 total attacks.

Park finished out the match with a 25-19 victory to mimic the first set.

Gabriel Soares led the Pirates with 15 kills and 12 digs for the double-double. Coming in at second in kills for Park was Stojic with 12.

Wellong hit .636 and had eight kills in the match.

Lucchesi besides a great blocking effort was the leader in assists at 36 and earned two kills as well.

Tomorrow Park won't have to go far, as they take on the neighboring No. 15 Missouri Baptist Spartans for their last possible road match of the 2023 regular season. Watch the live-action here.
