Park University's No. 8 nationally ranked men's volleyball program overpowered the Culver-Stockton College Wildcats in Canton, Mo. on Tuesday night, running away with the match 25-14, 25-9, 25-15.
The Pirates remain one of three NAIA teams that are unbeaten, No. 6 Menlo College and No. 10 University of Jamestown.
Park is now 13-0 on the season and 9-0 in Heart of America Athletic Conference play. Culver-Stockton is now 1-12 and 1-8 in the conference play.
Park was consistent with 11 kills in each set of the match and hit a season-best .475. The last match Park had above this mark would be last year's win against UHSP when Park hit .522.
Park had an exceptional hitting performance, all while holding Culver-Stockton to a .000 attack percentage with the help of seven blocks.
The Pirates were off to a 5-1 lead over the Wildcats and continued to surge, courtesy of the five kills in the opening set by
Mihailo Ivanovic. Ivanovic played one set tonight, but still managed to stay on target with last week's NAIA Defender of the Week pace of 2.0 blocks per set.
A 12-point lead was the largest of the set for Park.
Veljko Stojic closed out the set for Park with two back-to-back kills to end the set, 25-14.
Six different Pirates were in the mix with kills in the second set. They played as clean as can be with 11 kills and no errors for an attack percentage of .611.
After an 8-2 lead, Park went on an 8-0 run to lead 16-3. Another big set win favored the Pirates, as
Joao Infante hammered home the set's last kill, 25-9. Infante was swinging with precision as his final stat line was eight kills, zero errors, on nine attacks for highest attack percentage of .889.
Park and Culver-Stockton were tied in the early going in set three, 6-6. A 5-0 run for Park though pushed Park past the Wildcats for the remainder of the set. The final kill for a 25-15 score was registered by
Gabriel Soares and he finished with the second most kills with 6.
Eduardo Faquin and
Marcus Lucchesi were neck-and-neck in assists with 13 and 12, respectively.
Seven service aces were fired by Park. Lucchesi,
Nicolas Tenius, and
Mert Asma had the majority of those aces and were each responsible for two service aces.
Park's freshman libero from Ankara, Turkey, Asma, recovered seven digs, which gave him a new season-high in his young Pirate career.
The Pride of Clarke University will be the next challenger on Friday, February 24 inside Breckon Sports Center at 7pm.
