Park’s 2023 Season Ends in Des Moines Versus Grand View, 91-61

Park University's men's basketball program went on the road for their last contest of the season against Grand View University on Saturday, dropping the game to the Vikings, 91-61.

Park's season comes to a halt with a 5-23 record with a 3-20 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, while the Vikings bump up to 9-20 and 7-16 in conference play.

The Pirates struck first with an 8-0 run, featuring three-pointers by Shahadah Camp and Drew Kroft.

Park matched its largest lead of the game of eight points at 14-6, which triggered an 8-0 run of Grand View's in response to tie the game at 14-14 11:48.

The remainder of the half, Grand View outscored Park 36-11 for the 50-25 halftime lead. Park had 9 turnovers in that span before the half ended. The Vikings shot 50-percent at the end of the half with a perfect 7-7 from the line, while Park- posted a 35.5-percent and were 0-2 in free-throw attempts.

Grand View out of the second half were able to build their largest lead of 32 points with 7:56 remaining and while Park had a better second half offensively, Grand View still outscored Park in the second half, 41-36. By the end of the game, Grand View's victory was by 30 points, 91-61. This was a few possessions off the Pirates' average of 70.9 points per game this season.

Park did not make a three-point shot in the second half, while Grand View finished with eight on the game. The Vikings had the advantage in free-throws at 17-20 compared to Park's 8-11.

Grand View had more success off the glass as well with 46 rebounds compared to Park's 29. 15 of Grand View's rebounds were on the offensive end, while Park only hauled in two offensive rebounds. 18 second chance points for Grand View was also a key distinction to Park's two of the same.

Three of Park's big men were in double-figure scoring. Leon Kalinic was the leading scorer in the game for the first time this season with 11 points on four-of-eight shooting. His teammates in the block, Augusto Hausmann and Robert Rhodes, were effective in their own right with two 10-point performances as well.

 DeMarcus Hudson was another key contributor with nine points and dished off six assists to boot.
