Four Pirates Claim 2023 Heart All-Conference Selections

11/3/2023 1:01:00 PM

The Park University women's soccer program had four 2023 Heart of America Athletic Conference All-Conference award winners on Friday, including Patrycia Kozak, Felicitas Mueller, Cecilie Esbak Pedersen, and Annalena Penshorn.
Kozak in her first season at Park took home a First Team Heart All-Conference award, followed by a Second Team Heart All-Conference accolade by Park's goalkeeper Mueller. Esbak and Penshorn each achieved spots on the Third Team Heart All-Conference list.

Kozak had 12 goals and six assists her sophomore season. The forward from Ontario, Canada closed out the regular season tied for 5th in the Heart in goals scored. Of those in the conference with 10 or more goals, Kozak had the highest number of assists. Kozak gave an amazing effort in Park's last 5-1 victory with a hat trick or three goals scored against William Penn.

On the defensive side, Mueller has been with Park the past five seasons and now has two consecutive Heart all-conference awards to her credit. Last year she was named Heart Third Team All-Conference. She took a step up in 2023 and also earned a career-high of wins on the season with eight. Her 60 saves in 2023 also pad her Park all-time record for career saves at 313.

Another newcomer to Park this season is Esbak, who fit in great in this Pirates' lineup. The junior from Koege, Denmark put up the second highest number of goals for Park this year with seven goals and contributed four assists as well. Arguably one of Esbak's biggest goals of the season was her last minute game-winning goal against Clarke University as Park went up 2-1 on account of Esbak's strike.

Penshorn is in her second season at Park and the sophomore from Edemissen, Germany has quickly become an anchor to Park's back row defense. She has one goal and one assist on the year. Her lone goal was instrumental in Park's upset victory over No. 18 MidAmerica Nazarene. She along with her teammates also earned two shutouts this season.

Park will compete in the 2023 Heart Conference Tournament Quarterfinals on Saturday, November 4 at 1pm against No. 4 Benedictine College in Atchison, Kan.
