The No. 4 seeded Park University men's soccer program were poised to make a run in the 2023 Heart of America Athletic Conference Tournament, but came up short in their Quarterfinal round matchup with No. 5 Benedictine College, 1-Nil.
The Pirates had a respectable year at 7-5-3 and 5-3-3 in one of the toughest soccer conferences in the NAIA. Park hosted a conference playoff game for the first time since 2019 and this was their first time hosting a quarterfinal round in the Heart.
Benedictine bumps up to 10-4-4 after tying Park at 5-3-3 in conference play in the regular season.
The Ravens controlled in the first half with six shots, four of which were on goal compared to only two shots taken by Park.
Felipe Vargas got Benedictine the lead off of a header in the 35
th minute. The pass in off the free kick was from Diego Acuna for the assist. This goal would go a long way for Benedictine as the eventual game winner.
The Pirates came back with more energy in the second half and had seven shots to the Ravens' two. Of Park's second half shots, two were on goal and saved by Noah Reuscher of Benedictine.
Elias Eichhorn, Park's 2023 Heart Second Team All-Conference goalkeeper kept Park in it with three saves in the first half.
The Pirates' 2023 season has concluded in the Heart quarterfinals. Park has managed to make appearances in three quarterfinal rounds in their last four seasons in the conference.
