Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

No. 8 Park Captures Their 25th Win in 2023 in Sweep of Benedictine

The No. 8 nationally ranked Park University women's volleyball program made it to 25 wins on the season after a home sweep against Benedictine College, 25-20, 25-18, 25-17.

The Pirates are now 25-2 and 15-0 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, while Benedictine still stands at a solid 19-6 and 11-5 in conference play, two of those losses now coming against Park. .
It was a great start for Park and they garnered a 15-7 lead after an eight point rally. Both teams had 13 kills in set one but a big difference in the result was the 13 attack errors by the Ravens to only five for Park. The Pirates were led by Grecia Ung in set one with five kills, which was the perfect amount for the eventual five-point win over the Ravens, 25-20.

The storyline in set two was the blocking as seven blocks completely cut off the Ravens at the net. Five of those blocks came from the 2022 NAIA All-American Debora Bernardi. The Pirates set their new season-high in total blocks with 17 and their set two performance was enough to put them over the top. A five-point run towards the start of set two created a 10-5 lead. Both teams went back and forth in points until a four-point scoring streak gave Park its largest lead of eight, 20-12. It was too much for the Ravens to comeback from as the Pirates won, 25-18.

The third set was an impressive start for Park, earning a 6-2 lead before forcing a Benedictine timeout. Three blocks in a row within a four-point run by Bernardi, Arianna Marino, and Grecia Ung gave the Pirates plenty of breathing room over Benedictine at 11-3, but the Ravens were able to turn the tide and brought it within one point at 14-13. The Pirates responded with a five-point rally to erase the would be comeback. Four kills were claimed in the third set by Bernardi and another four-point run helped close out Park's largest set win of the night at 25-17.

This was the second lowest hitting percentage Park had in conference matches at .138, but they also held the Ravens to a .000 hitting percentage.

Ung led in kills with nine, but she also had an impressive five service aces, eight digs, and four solo blocks.

Last week's Heart setter of the week, Marino, had 29 assists and was just shy of a double-double with nine digs. She has been consistent at the net too with five block assists.

Irene Verdino was the only Pirate in double-figure dig numbers and earned 16 tonight.
