The No. 8 nationally ranked Park University women's volleyball program completed the sweep of Culver-Stockton College on Thursday in Canton, Mo. 25-13, 25-23, 25-16.
Park through 20 games only has two ranked losses and now are at 18-2 overall with a 12-0 Heart of America Athletic Conference record. The Wildcats are still searching for their first win in conference play at 0-12 and are 4-19 on the year.
A 7-1 lead to begin set one immediately set the tone in the match for Park.
Isabela Ribeiro had two kills to begin the match and she continued to have a night with eight kills. This was her season-high in kills and the second highest offensive performance of her five year career. The Pirates kept the pressure on and led by as much as 13 points at 18-5.
Mafalda Bras gave her team a boost with four kills, which was part of a 5-0 scoring streak. Before long, the Pirates arrived at a 25-13 set one victory.
The second set was tightly contested and the Wildcats held the lead for the majority of the match starting at 3-2. It wouldn't be until 19-19 when Park eventually tied it.
Avery Caskey gave Park the lead with a kill at 20-19 then the freshmen contributed two blocks in the next several rallies to help Park to a three point lead. It was a good finish by the Pirates as once they took the lead they held on for a 25-23 win.
The Pirates looked to be in rhythm again in the third set and went out to an 11-4 lead. The Wildcats at this point called a timeout, but were met by an additional kill by
Amra Kovac and service ace by
Irene Verdino for a 13-4 lead. Caskey had four kills in the set to pair well with Anderson's three kills. Both of these Pirates were co-leaders with Bras in kills with nine for the match. Park led by as much as 10 before finishing off the match at 25-16.
Kovac led defensively with six blocks and added five kills as well. Caskey was right behind Kovac with four block assists.
Verdino and Bras led with 13 digs in the match, while
Arianna Marino earned her 10
th double-double of the ,year at 26 assists and 10 digs.
Luna Martins had a balanced match with seven assists and five digs.
Park takes a break from Heart play and will compete in the Missouri Baptist University Classic on Friday and Saturday in St. Louis. The Pirates play Saint Ambrose University and Lindsey Wilson College on Friday and then No. 7 Missouri Baptist and Saint Xavier University on Saturday.
