Nine-straight losses after Saturday is hard to stomach for the Pirates and is the longest program losing streak in over 10 years. Park's record slumps to 5-16 and 3-13 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. The Pride came in with a similar conference record, but now stand at 10-11 and 5-10 in conference play.
Augusto Hausmann put Park in the lead with the opening score. This would be the only lead for Park in the game.
Clarke tied the game on two free-throws and then made four three-pointers in the first five minutes to overtake Park 14-2.
Lucas Kroft began the effort to chip away at the deficit for his team with a made three-pointer at 9:28 to make it 24-12. Another three-point play occurred in Park's next possession on an and-one by
Leon Kalinic. Then
Sebastian Reynoso Jiminez made a fade away jumper from the elbow to pull within 9 points.
Another three-pointer by Lucas brought Park back within striking distance 27-20 with 7:43 remaining. Hausmann brought the game within six at 3:37, which was the closest deficit Park was able to get back to in both halves from that point on.
In just under six minutes of play from 9:28 to 3:37 in the first half, Park outscored the Pride 15-9. It would be to no avail though, since every time the Pirates gained on the leader, the Pride would respond with a strong showing of points.
The half closed out 42-30 in favor of the Pride and they cashed in on nine made three-pointers in the first half alone.
As mentioned, coming within six points was the closest Park could get to the Pride in the second half. 10 more three-point shots fell for Clarke in the second half as their largest lead extended to 29 with 6:22 remaining in the game.
The final score when it was all over was 87-60.
Turnovers played a role in the Pride's success. Clarke secured the ball with only 10 turnovers, while Park had 18 themselves. This set Clarke up for 35 points off turnovers compared to just seven for the Pirates.
Clarke set a new program record in three-point makes, going 19-of-36 from beyond the arc, which broke their previous record of 18.
Park shot 40-percent from the field and were five-of-19 from beyond the arc. Free-throws did not have a big impact on this game, as both teams were essentially even with seven-of-11 for Park and six-of-nine for the Pride.
Lucas was Park's leading scorer and rebounder with 17 points and eight boards, while Hausmann was just behind him with 15 points and seven rebounds.
Jiminez was good on the day with a three-for-four performance for eight points.
Robert Rhodes made Clarke pay inside with three blocks and came down with a respectable six rebounds.
14 different Pirates got time in this game, including DeAngelo Woods who recorded his first appearance as a Pirate.
The Pirates travel to Baldwin City, Kan. on Wednesday, February 1 to meet with Baker University at 7:30pm.
