Ty Dean joined staff as the Assistant Director of Athletics of Facility & Game Operations in August 2023. He previously served as the Student Athlete Experience & Development Coordinator from 2022 to 2023 at the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.Â
While at the NAIA, Dean oversaw the Champions of Character Program along with responsibilities with the Champions of Character Advisory committee and Campus Character Liaison Mentor Program. Within his role, he was able to coordinate Teaming Up for Character for NAIA National Championship contending teams at the championship's final site as well as contributing to several other NAIA initiatives.Â
He comes into this next chapter with the experience as a driven student-athlete under his belt at Southern Oregon University, where he earned his Bachelor's in Health and Physical Education in 2019. He followed that up with his Master's in Athletic Administration and Coaching in December 2021 from Concordia University Irvine.Â
At SOU, he played defensive back for the Raiders' football program from 2017-2018. He had two stops before SOU, competing for Chaffey Community College and Sacramento City College in 2016 and 2015. He earned a Coaches Award for Most Recognized Team Player in 2017 and 2018, and was the NAIA Frontier Conference Champion of Character Award recipient in 2018
He would stay in Ashland, Ore. at SOU for three more years as an Assistant Athletic Director of Gameday Operations and Facility Management in his full-time role beginning in June 2019 and ran through June 2022. He did this while also expanding his role as the Director of Operations and Assistant Basketball Coach in the same time frame. His responsibilities included administering the daily operations of the women's and men's basketball programs as well as coaching the women's basketball team.
More outstanding achievements for Dean include being named the Governance Conference Cascade Collegiate Conference Commissioner in 2022 and being selected for an Outstanding Leadership In Civic Engagement Award in 2019.Â
Dean currently lives in Kansas City, Mo. and is from Inglewood, Calif.Â
