- Areka is the daughter of Denise Bennett and Roy Hanson
- She has 12 siblings, Tanisha Hanson (36), Eveytte Hanson 35), Roy Hanson (31), Moyagaye Hanson (24), Saskia Williams (23), Monnalisa Hanson (21), Kian Bennett (18), Odane Hanson (18), Pratrice Hanson (15), Orane Hanson (14), Patricia Hanson (11), and Breindel Bennett (3)
- Studying Business Administration
- Chose Park because it provides a welcoming atmosphere with the different diversities, provides several opportunities for a person to grow and be prepared for the working world.
- Transferred from Johnson County Community College
- A two-time All-America at the NJCAA level in the distance medley relay and the 4x800-Meter Relay
- Received outstanding student at JCCC, Scholar Athlete, a member of Phi Theta Kappa, NJCAA Academic student exemplary award
- Went to Manchester High School in Mandeville, Manchester
- Was a member of the 4x100-meter dash that won the Penn Relays
- Was on the track and field team, was a girls guide, outstanding student in food and nutrition and outstanding student in home economics
- She knows Tracy-an who was a NAIA All-American from Baker University
- Enjoys listening to music and going to the movies
