- 2020-21: He was a valuable member of Park’s reserve men’s basketball team and did not participate in a full season due to injury.

- Son of Jeffrey and Geneva Gaines
- He has one older sibling, Tariq
- Pursuing a fitness and wellness degree
- Chose Park because of connections with family members who previously attended Park, it offers the degree he wants to pursue, and to continue his athletic career
- Previously attended Randolph High School
- He contributed in his high school basketball team’s first-place finishes in the Canyon Lake High School Tournament and the Randolph High School Tournament
- He serves his community through coaching youth basketball at a local YMCA and volunteers at San Antonio Food Bank
- Jamal enjoys playing basketball and hanging out with friends
