The Park University Esports' Rocket League program hosted the first-ever Heart of America Athletic Conference Tournament Championship on Saturday, but were stunned in the semifinals against St. Ambrose University.
Park was the No. 1 seeded team in Heart Rocket League after a perfect 7-0 regular season. Park also had two Heart All-Conference players, including Koen Barnett on First Team and
Kevin Fagan on Second Team.
Barnett (vV XERO Vv) was also the first-ever Heart Rocket League Player of the Year.
Park had a perfect 7-0 season in Rocket League with its unmatched team of Barnett,
Kevin Fagan, Seth Snowden, and Kyle Hopkins. This group went 21-6 in their 27 best-of-three games played to secure the No. 1 overall seed in the Heart Conference Tournament.
Seth Snowden rounded off the trio for Park's Rocket League starting lineup.
Barnett was tied for third in goals on the season with 38 and also was credited with 32 saves and 16 assists.
Fagan (itzfloofy) and Snowden (SoapedBar) were up past the 20 count in goals and assists as well with 26 and 26 for Fagan and 21 and 24, respectively, for Snowden.
No. 4 seeded St. Ambrose was a team the Pirates had previously defeated on March 14 3-1, but the Fighting Bees came to play on Saturday and not only upset No. 1 Park, but captured the first Heart Rocket League Conference Tournament Championship.
Each of Park's players had two goals in the semifinal series on Saturday, Snowden led with nine saves, and Barnett led with four assists.
In the end, Park fell in the best of seven-series, 4-1.
