GAME 1 | L, 3-15 | Box Score
It was a one, two, three top of the first by Park's starting pitcher
Alex Lozada, who normally is accustomed to coming in the latter innings to finish out games in relief. In an inning and a third he allowed one earned run on two hits and had a strike out.
Six runs would come in between the second and third innings for the Spartans to give them a 6-0 lead.
Dash Goldston would follow up Lozada and last an inning before handing it off to
John Brady. Brady was effective for Park with an inning and two-thirds innings pitched with three strikeouts and zero runs to his credit.
Gilberto Torres singled to bring in
Alex Rodriguez for Park's first run in the bottom of the third. They would not score again until the bottom of the seventh with RBI singles from
Corey Bradford and
Gunnar Griffin for Park's three runs.
Nine runs, including a six run top of the fifth would put the game out of reach,
Mason Sipes,
Jesse Scholtz, and
Logan Weaver closed out the day on the mound for the Pirates.
20 hits were registered by the Spartans, while Park had six hits of their own. Defensively both teams had to live with their two errors in the field.
Park will host Clarke University at Comfort Field on Thursday and Friday at 1pm both days. These games were originally scheduled to be played in Dubuque, Iowa but because of incoming weather all week, it forced the series to come to Parkville, Mo.
