Park Esports’ League of Legends Captures First-Ever Heart of America Athletic Conference Tournament Championship

11/1/2023 3:56:00 PM

The Park University Esports' League of Legends program completed their Heart of America Athletic Conference season, the first in the conference's history, and became 2023 Heart Conference Tournament Champions on Saturday, October 28.

The conference championship was hosted by Park Athletics in the Parkade as well as extra space used in Park University's Academic Underground.

The Pirates were 3-2 in the regular season, but two wins Saturday takes them to 5-2.

Park entered the championship tournament with a No. 4 seed in the four-team playoff, which included No. 1 Grand View University, No. 2 Saint Ambrose University, and No. 3 Culver-Stockton College.

The Pirates drew the No. 1 seed Vikings, a team that Park defeated two weeks prior 1-0.

Grand View has been known as an established Esports program for the last several years, a school where current Park Head Coach Adam Farm coached before coming to Park in Fall 2021.

With motivation going into the match and high anticipation on both sides, the Pirates yet again prevailed over the Vikings. In the conference tournament the winner was determined by a best of three game series and the Pirates came away with the 2-0 sweep. Their third straight game won during the season, all against the Vikings at this point in the tournament.

Park came back at 5pm for the Championship match which would be another tough matchup with No. 2 Saint Ambrose.

Park had plenty of gas left in the tank in their match with the Fighting Bees and breezed to another 2-Nil sweep to claim the conference title.

Zackery Fritz (Fritz), Dalton Dawson-Dorrell (Proxyinginbase), George Humble (Big Tringle), Brennan Meyers-Keeling (Rarko), and Koshinen were the five Park players to make history led by Adam Farm.

Fritz, Dawson-Dorrell, and Humble each took home all-conference honors. First Team for Fritz, while his teammates took home Heart Second Team All-Conference.

Fritz caught attention from his peers throughout the season and was also named the 2023 Heart League of Legends Player of the Year.
